Tura, June 24: The police teams from Williamnagar and Rongjeng Police Stations in East Garo Hills District jointly carried out a successful arms recovery operation in the early hours of Tuesday.
Acting on credible information, the operation led by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Williamnagar, began at around 11:30 PM on June 23 and was conducted in the thick jungles near Chikama village under Rongjeng Police Station.
At approximately 2:00 AM, the team discovered a cache of arms and ammunition buried in the forest. The recovered items included one country-made pistol, 212 rounds of suspected live AK ammunition, 22 suspected anti-aircraft rounds, 13 damaged anti-aircraft rounds without pellets, 11 loose pellets, and 52 rounds of 6.5 mm live ammunition.
All items were seized on the spot in the presence of witnesses. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to determine the origin and possible links of the recovered weapons.
The Superintendent of Police, S.A. Rynjah urged the public to remain alert and assist law enforcement in safeguarding the region.
