Airtel launches 5G services in Meghalaya; Shillong becomes 1st city with 5G connectivity

Shillong, Jan 14: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday formally launched the Airtel 5G Plus services in the state of Meghalaya. The 5G services are currently available only in Shillong City.

“The 5G services will enable us to provide citizen centric services in a much better manner an many other services like healthcare, agriculture, and other services will also be helped by 5G services,” CM Sangma said at the launch event.

The 5G connectivity is currently operational at Laitumukhrah, Lapalang, Nongrah, Governor House, Lummawbah, Jaiaw Laitdom, Pines colony (Laban Red Cross), Mawpat, Riat Sohkhlur and a few other locations in Shillong.
Airtel said it will augment its network making its services available across the city in due course of time.

The telecom company also assured that the launch of 5G marks one more step in the connectivity journey in Meghalaya as Airtel is building the finest 5G network for the state and Airtel 5G Plus services will be available to State customers in a phased manner as the company continues to construct its network and complete the roll out. For using this, customers with 5G enabled devices will enjoy high speed network at no extra cost.

Mentionably, Airtel is the first service provider to launch 5G in the North East.
