Tura, Jan 23: Amid efforts to restore calm following the recent Rajabala incident, the West Garo Hills district administration on Friday convened a second formal peace meeting, signalling an intensified push to prevent further unrest and reinforce communal harmony.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal at the Tura Circuit House, was attended by Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma, senior administrative officials, representatives of social and youth organisations, and influential community leaders from across the district.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said the administration’s foremost priority remains the safety and security of all citizens. He described the discussions as “fruitful”, noting that feedback from community representatives would help shape measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Warning against the spread of misinformation, Agarwal cautioned that fake news and unverified social media posts could inflame tensions. He urged the public to rely only on verified news sources and official channels, adding that emergency contact numbers of all police stations have been shared to allow citizens to verify situations on the ground before reacting.
Officials said the district administration is working closely with religious and community leaders, who are holding local-level meetings in various parts of West Garo Hills to calm emotions and discourage impulsive actions.

At the same time, authorities are keeping a close watch on social media platforms and ground-level developments to detect any signs of emerging tension.
The Deputy Commissioner подчерк that coordinated efforts between the police, civil society and community leaders are key to maintaining law and order. With enhanced police deployment and sustained dialogue, the administration expressed confidence that the district would return to full normalcy soon.
