Tura, Aug. 7: The Phulbari Police Team arrested accused Chanda M. Sangma days after the body of a 12-year-old girl was found in a pool of blood behind her house in the West Garo Hills of Meghalaya.
According to reports, the accused was seen by the villagers of Jangrapara, following which the Police were informed.
After a thorough search of the Jangrapara village and nearby forest area, the accused person was apprehended on Monday.
On August 1, the body of an approx. 12- to 13-year-old girl was recovered from Jangrapara village.
The inquest and post-mortem examination of the dead body have already been conducted, and a case vide Tura Women PS Case No. 58(08)2023 U/s 302/376A IPC R/W Sec. 5/6 of the POCSO Act has been registered.
According to the police, the girl’s throat was slit, and her head was almost decapitated.
The incident took place when the entire family of the girl had gone out to attend a funeral, and she had returned home to check on the lights.
Only when the parents returned back home they found the girl’s dead body.
Chanda M. Sangma was also accused and charged in another rape/molestation, and criminal intimidation case last year.
