Academic sessions to begin at Mahendraganj & Mawphlang Science and Commerce Colleges soon: Conrad

Shillong, March 11: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday announced that academic sessions of the Science and Commerce Colleges at Mawphlang and Mahendraganj will commence soon, despite the ongoing construction work, to ensure students do not lose valuable academic time.

“We are aware that the completion of the construction (of the buildings) is taking more time but we strongly felt that we must start the academic sessions (of the two colleges) so that students do not miss out… Wherever building space available, we will start the courses,” Sangma said while replying in the Assembly during the question hour.

He also assured to ensure that the contractors complete the construction of the buildings.

Earlier, while presenting the status of the Science and Commerce College Mawphlang, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma informed that the overall physical progress of civil construction work is 86 percent and financial progress at 94%. The rescheduled date of completion of the project is March 2025.

He said that government has conveyed approval for creation of 46 posts, adding that preparation of plan and estimate for external electricity power supply, external water supply connection and black topping of the approach road are under process.

In regards to the Science and Commerce College Bahsapara (Mahendraganj), the minister said the overall physical progress of construction work is 66% and financial progress at 70%. The rescheduled date of completion of the project is March 31, 2026.

Further, the minister said that the total amount of money sanctioned by the government of India for the Science and Commerce College Mawphlang project is Rs 36.55 crore on June 30, 2017 with a funding patter of 90:10, of which Rs 31.1685 crore has been released.

The total amount of money sanctioned by the GOI for the Science and Commerce College Bahsapara (Mahendraganj) is Rs 36.31 crore on June 30, 2017 with a funding pattern of 90:10 ratio, of which Rs 23.5274 crore has been released.
