SHILLONG, OCT 9: Meghalaya’s lone Rajya Sabha MP James Pangsang Kongkal Sangma has requested the Joint Committee examining the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 to hold consultations with stakeholders in Shillong.
Sangma, who has been nominated as a Special Invitee to the Joint Committee, said he has written to the chairman of the committee Lok Sabha MP Dr Sanjay Jaiswal in this regard.
“I have personally written to the chairman of the committee that it would be nice and convenient if the committee were to come to Shillong and meet stakeholders here, so that we can make it convenient for stakeholders to come and meet the members of the committee,” Sangma said on Friday.
He also said the committee is on track to submit its report before the end of the winter session of Parliament.
“We had meetings of the FCRA recently and I am not at liberty to divulge details of what transpired in those meetings, but the committee is meeting stakeholders, is meeting many departments and I think the mandate is to complete everything and to submit it before the end of the winter session,” he said.
“We understand the urgency and I am very sure that under the chairmanship of Dr Jaiswal, we will be able to complete our task,” Sangma added.
The Joint Committee was constituted to examine the FCRA Amendment Bill, 2026 and is currently holding consultations with various stakeholders and departments.
