SHILLONG, OCT 1: BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah legislator Alexander Laloo Hek has taken up the case of the Society of Pilar, North East India, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, after its FCRA renewal got stuck for over two years.
In a letter submitted recently, Hek, Chairman of the State Government Programme Implementation & Monitoring Committee, Meghalaya, said the Society — headquartered at Mawlein, Mawkhan, Ri-Bhoi District and registered under the Meghalaya Societies Registration Act, 1983 — has been serving Meghalaya and other Northeastern states for decades.
He said the Society’s FCRA registration bearing No. 020780073 expired in 2024.
“Unfortunately, the society’s FCRA registration bearing No. 020780073, has expired in 2024. The Society thereafter has applied for its renewal, however the same could not be accepted, as certain particulars relating to the registration of the Society had not been updated,” Hek wrote.
According to Hek, the Society has completed all corrective steps, including renewal of its registration under the Meghalaya Societies Registration Act, 1983, which now stands valid up to 02.02.2028.
Despite re-submitting the application after corrections, renewal has not been granted, he said.
Hek further pointed out that due to recent changes to the FCRA online portal, “the society is presently unable to access its application or ascertain its status, which has made it difficult for the society to follow up on the matter.”
Urging Shah to intervene, Hek wrote, “In these circumstances, I would be most grateful if you could kindly cause the matter to be examined and direct the concerned authorities to extend such assistance as may be deemed appropriate.”
