Kangpokpi, August 27: At least four Naga civilians were reportedly killed and another injured in an ambush along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, allegedly carried out by armed individuals from the Kuki community.

According to preliminary reports, one of the victims was from Upper Thonglang, two were from Makui and another was from Saramjao. One person remains missing following the attack.

The incident, which is yet to be officially confirmed by police, has renewed security concerns along the IT Road. It occurred a day after a high-level meeting in Senapati discussed measures to promote peace, security and stability in Manipur.

On Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho met a United Naga Council delegation led by its president, N.G. Lorho. Thanga MLA Tongbram Robindro also attended the meeting.
The discussions focused on the prevailing situation and the need for stronger coordination to maintain peace in the region. Senior officials and personnel from the CRPF, Assam Rifles and Senapati Police were present.

The reported killings have heightened concerns within the Naga community over the safety of people travelling along the IT Road and underscored the continuing security challenges in the area.

Further details are awaited.
