Meghalaya Tourist Taxi allegedly attacked on Assam highway despite recent talks

Williamnagar, Aug 24: A tourist taxi registered in Meghalaya was allegedly attacked by two unidentified persons in Bijoynagar, Assam, on Sunday afternoon, according to the All Garo Hills Taxi Association.

The incident occurred at around 3:04 pm and involved a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga bearing registration number ML-13A 8719.

According to the association, two unidentified persons travelling on a motorcycle allegedly approached the taxi and pelted stones at the vehicle before leaving the area.

Several taxi drivers from Tura and Williamnagar were reportedly travelling together from Guwahati when the incident occurred. Only one passenger was travelling in the affected vehicle and no injuries were reported.

The incident comes amid recent talks between the Meghalaya and Assam governments over concerns related to the movement of commercial vehicles between the two states on Saturday.

The All Garo Hills Taxi Association expressed concern over the safety of taxi operators and passengers travelling along the route and urged the authorities concerned to look into the incident.

The association also advised drivers and passengers to remain cautious while travelling through the area.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and the identity of those involved have not yet been established.
