Itanagar, August 16: Five Army personnel are missing after a cloudburst in the Pashu Pani area of Anini in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday evening triggered a massive landslide, officials said.

“Immediate rescue operations were carried out and two soldiers were rescued. Multiple rescue teams were rushed from neighbouring posts, braving inclement weather and inundation, to reach the site and join the rescue operations. Five soldiers are still missing,” an official said.

“Coordinated search and rescue operations are presently underway to locate and evacuate affected personnel from the area,” he said.

Army aviation assets have also been deployed to augment the rescue effort and facilitate immediate medical evacuation. “All available resources are being employed in a coordinated rescue and relief operation,” the official said.
Search and rescue operations are continuing on priority, while further details are awaited following verification of the situation.

Meanwhile, in Upper Subansiri district, a major landslide struck the Keojaring-Byaching road construction site, burying several people under debris.

Four people identified as Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari and Babul Ali were reported dead in the incident.
