Shillong, Aug 9: A key stretch of the Shillong-Dawki Road will reopen to vehicular traffic from Monday, August 10, after a joint inspection found conditions suitable for resuming movement, the Pynursla Civil Sub-Division has announced.
The Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem stretch between Chainage Km 24 and 37 of NH-206 will be reopened for all vehicles from August 10, according to a public notice issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pynursla.
However, the night-time closure will continue from 10 pm to 5 am. Commuters have been asked to strictly follow the notified timings and directions of the administration.
The decision followed a joint inspection on August 8 involving officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), PWD (Roads), Pynursla Division, and other agencies.
With the monsoon still active, authorities have urged commuters to remain cautious, citing the continuing risk of landslides, rockfalls and road instability along the stretch.
People have also been advised to avoid non-essential travel during heavy rain, immediately after rainfall and at night.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire services and police vehicles, may be allowed through during the closure period, subject to safety assessment by authorities at the site.
The reopening is expected to ease movement along the important Shillong-Dawki corridor while road construction works continue.
