SHILLONG, AUG 7: BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek said the long-pending railway issue for Meghalaya should now be decided by the state and central governments, keeping the interests of the people in mind.
Asked about the delay in resolving the matter, Hek said the issue has been pending for a long time.
“This one is pending for a long time. So now we leave it to the wisdom of the state government and also the wisdom of the central government for bringing the railway line to Meghalaya,” he said.
Hek added that the project should be pursued only if it benefits the people of the state.
“This will be for the overall benefit of the people of the state. If the railway line is connecting to Meghalaya and if it is benefiting the people of Meghalaya, we should appreciate it. If it does not benefit, then also we will go with the people’s choice only,” he said.
