Guwahati, May 2: A forest ranger posted in Lakhimpur was caught red-handed by Assam Police’s anti-corruption cell while allegedly accepting a bribe, officials said on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Shivashish Sandilya. According to officials, he was apprehended at his official residence while allegedly receiving ₹12,000 from the owner of a dumper vehicle.

Acting on specific inputs, the vigilance team carried out the operation and detained the officer on the spot.

Subsequently, a search was conducted at his residence in Lakhimpur, during which officials recovered ₹5.68 lakh in cash. The recovery has raised questions about possible unaccounted assets linked to the officer.

Following his detention, the anti-corruption cell launched a wider investigation into the case. Acting on further leads, officials also conducted a raid at Sandilya’s residence in Guwahati’s Zoo Road area, where he reportedly resides in the Shantipur locality.
