Shillong, March 2: The District Administration of East Khasi Hills on Monday organised a large-scale career guidance programme to prepare local youth for the upcoming Agniveer (Indian Army) and Agniveervayu (Indian Air Force) recruitment drives for 2026.

Held at the Soso Tham Auditorium, the session brought together defence officials and district authorities to provide detailed insights into eligibility criteria, physical standards, and the selection process under the Agnipath scheme.

The programme was led by Deputy Commissioner R.M. Kurbah, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner S. Warjri. Strategic guidance was delivered by Col. Vinay Kumar, Director of the Army Recruiting Office, Retired Lt. Colonel Sebastian Marbaniang, Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, and a resource person from the Indian Air Force.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner urged aspirants to seize the opportunity, noting that recruitment rallies would be conducted in Shillong to ensure maximum accessibility for candidates across the region.

She highlighted that more than 700 candidates from the region successfully joined the Agniveer scheme and the BSF last year — a figure she described as proof of the growing interest and impact of structured career guidance initiatives.

Col. Vinay Kumar outlined the roadmap for the 2026 Agniveer recruitment process under the Indian Army. The registration deadline is April 1, 2026, and the online entrance exam is from June 1–15, 2026.

Col. Kumar stressed the long-term career prospects under the Agniveer scheme and encouraged Meghalaya’s youth to complete their registrations well before the deadline.

The Indian Air Force representative announced that the Agniveer Vayu recruitment rally for candidates from across the Northeast will be held on March 20, 2026, at the Headquarters Eastern Air Command.

The selection process will include a physical test followed by a written examination. Under the Agniveervayu scheme, up to 25% of recruits will be enrolled into the permanent cadre based on performance.

Officials placed special emphasis on encouraging greater participation of women, noting that the intake capacity for female candidates is currently high.
Aspirants were advised to visit the official Agnipath portal for detailed information and updates.
