SHILLONG, FEB 21: East Jaintia Hills police have intensified their crackdown on illegal coal mining and transport, seizing 12 trucks laden with coal overnight.
“On intervening night of February 20 and 21, 12 trucks laden with coal were seized by district police,” East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania said.
He said the ongoing drive has so far led to the arrest of 22 persons, the registration of 94 FIRs, and the seizure of 17,322 metric tonnes of coal and 25.5 kg of explosives.
The crackdown on illegal coal mining continues in the wake of the Mynsngat-Thangsko mine explosion, which claimed over 33 lives.
