Shillong, Feb 2: The East Khasi Hills Police have imposed traffic restrictions and diversions in parts of Upper Shillong due to ongoing construction work along the Shillong–Dawki Road near Mahadev Khola Dham in the 101 Area.
According to the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, the movement of trucks, including 407, 409 and commercial/bazaar vehicles, will remain restricted for a stretch of around 250 metres. These vehicles will be diverted from 5th Mile, Upper Shillong towards Shillong Peak Road–Pomlakrai, and from MES (Rilbong) point via Anjalee Point–Barik Point–Dhankheti–Fire Brigade Point–Madanrting–Laitkor–Pomlakrai.
All heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) coming from Nongstoin and Mawngap will be diverted at Mawmaram junction towards Lawmei–Umsaw Road, while HMVs arriving from Sohra and Pynursla will be diverted at 7th Mile, Upper Shillong, towards Mawngap–Mawmaram.
However, buses ferrying schoolchildren will be allowed to ply towards the MES point from Upper Shillong and vice versa, the police said.
In addition, the speed limit for all categories of vehicles has been capped at 20 kmph across the entire 101 Area in the interest of public safety.
The traffic regulations will remain in force from February 3 to February 18. Authorities have expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the public.
