SHILLONG, JAN 30: Meghalaya is gearing up to host the 39th National Games, with Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla announcing that preparations are on track.

“Today deputy chief minister in-charge urban affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar reviewed the preparations for the upcoming 39th National Games. We have briefed him from all aspects – infrastructure, accommodation and the discipline to be held in different parts of the state. He was happy with the presentation,” Shylla told reporters after the meeting on Friday.

The minister highlighted that infrastructure progress is going well, with venues like the JN Complex and PA Sangma stadium nearing completion.

“Overall, I have seen in terms of infrastructure the progress is going well,” he added.

Regarding accommodation, Shylla stated that a games village might not be necessary due to the availability of hotels and homestays. The construction timeline varies, with some venues expected to be completed by March, June, or November.

Shylla also informed that the union sports minister has requested other northeastern states to participate, and Meghalaya has agreed to give them hosting rights for specific events.

“It is a request from the ministry that they would like other north eastern states to be a part of the national games… we will give them the opportunity to host one event each,” Shylla said.

The budget estimate is still being finalized, involving multiple departments. “As of now I cannot tell you because there are lots of things going on… but we will definitely come up with the budget estimates,” Shylla stated.
