SHILLONG, JAN 6: State police continue a manhunt to apprehend the masterminds behind the IED attack on the Dhar Construction Company campus at Shymplong village, East Jaintia Hills district.
“Right now we are still investigating the case. We are trying to locate the two persons who are absconding,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikash Kumar said on Tuesday.

The banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) had claimed responsibility for the attack, alleging it targeted property belonging to Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar after an alleged extortion refusal.
The SP however informed the manhunt against the masterminds of the IED attack is on.
The masterminds have been identified as Smiki Tongper of Shymplong and Issei Sungoh, an HNLC cadre from Khliehriat, both wanted in separate criminal cases.
While Smiki Tongper is wanted accused in a case registered under the POCSO Act, Issei Sungoh is wanted for an IED blast at the police reserve in Khliehriat and other illegal activities.

The blast, which occurred on the night of December 15, 2025 damaged a water tanker but caused no injuries.
Police have already arrested Richard Suchen (31) and Pynshaitbor Syih (45) for their involvement in the IED attack.
