Shillong, Nov 18: Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla has instructed officials to settle the outstanding rent for the Nehru Memorial State Dispensary in Mawlai, which has been pending for nearly five years.

The directive follows a memorandum submitted by Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang, seeking the minister’s intervention in releasing the pending house rent.

“I was surprised to learn that the department has not released the pending house rent for almost five years,” Shylla said.

“I have already spoken to the officers and management of the dispensary and directed them to take necessary action.”

The minister estimated the outstanding rent to be around Rs 8-10 lakhs. “I have asked why they have not paid the rent for so many years and directed the officers to take necessary action,” he added.

Shylla also highlighted the challenges faced by the state government in acquiring land for a permanent dispensary building.

“The state government has tried its best to get its own land, but we face difficulties due to lack of offers,” he said.

“There has always been an attempt to have a permanent building, but the problem is that we have not got the land,” Shylla stated, expressing hope that the issue would be resolved soon.
