Meghalaya’s Akash Choudhary makes history with eight sixes in a row!

Shillong, Nov 9: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has congratulated cricketer Akash Kumar Choudhary for scripting history in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh by hitting six consecutive sixes in an over, equalling the world record held by cricketing legends Sir Gary Sobers and Ravi Shastri.

Choudhary’s blistering innings didn’t stop there — he went on to hit eight consecutive sixes overall and smashed the fastest fifty in first-class cricket history, reaching his half-century in just 11 balls, and finishing unbeaten on 50 off 14 balls.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the record in a post on X (formerly Twitter):

Fastest fifty, off just 11 balls, in first-class cricket ✅

Meghalaya’s Akash Kumar etched his name in the record books with a blistering knock of 50*(14) in the Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh in Surat.”

ESPNcricinfo also hailed the achievement, calling it an “unprecedented feat” in the history of first-class cricket.

In a congratulatory post, Chief Minister Sangma expressed immense pride over Choudhary’s performance:

“Congratulations to Akash Choudhary on achieving a world record by scoring six sixes in an over in first-class cricket, equalling the legendary Gary Sobers and Ravi Shastri. He also scored 50 runs in just 14 balls in the same match. Your explosive batting has made Meghalaya proud. Wishing you many more milestones and success in your cricketing journey.”

Terming the milestone as a proud moment for the state, Sangma said Choudhary’s record-breaking feat highlights the growing strength of Meghalaya’s sporting talent and will serve as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers across the state.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) President Nababrata Bhattacharjee also extended his congratulations, describing Choudhary’s world-record performance as “a moment of immense pride for Meghalaya cricket and a testament to the state’s rising sporting excellence.”
