Guwahati, Sept 25: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police on Thursday detained musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami for questioning in connection with the sudden death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg. Goswami was reportedly part of the group that accompanied Garg on the yacht trip preceding his demise.
Authorities confirmed his detention but did not disclose the specific allegations against him.
In a parallel move, the SIT also visited the residence of entrepreneur and cultural activist Shyamkanu Mahanta as part of the ongoing investigation. However, officials have not shared details regarding the search.
The developments follow Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s assurance to the people of Assam that “no individual will be spared” in the probe into Garg’s untimely death.
On Wednesday, Sarma revealed on social media that he had convened a high-level review meeting with the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), Additional DGP (CID), the Chief Secretary, and senior officials. Following the meeting, he directed the DGP to constitute a Special Investigation Team comprising some of Assam’s most experienced officers to ensure a thorough inquiry.
