Kamakhya Express derails in Odisha

Guwahati, March 30: The Kamakhya Express train derailed near Choudwar in Odisha on Sunday.

The train reportedly derailed near the Manguli passenger halt in the Choudwar area at 11:54 AM.

As per reports, the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Superfast Express derailed near Choudwar, Odisha, with eight bogies affected.

One person has been reported dead in the mishap, while many passengers are feared injured.

The derailment occurred at Nirgundi near Manguli in Choudwar. Rescue operations are underway. Due to the heatwave, passengers are panicked and urgently need water.

The bogies from B-6 to B-14 have derailed, with several falling off the tracks into nearby forests and fields. As a result, many passengers jumped off the train. The railways have informed us that other trains scheduled on this route have been canceled.

Taking to X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I am aware of the incident involving the 12551 Kamakhya Express in Odisha. @CMOfficeAssam is in touch with the Odisha Government and Railways. We will reach out to each and every person who is affected.”

Accident Relief and Medical Relief Trains have been rushed to the spot.

Efforts are being made to transport stranded passengers to their destinations.

According to railway authorities, the following trains have been diverted with immediate effect due to the derailment: 12822 (BRAG), 12875 (BBS), and 22606 (RTN).
