Shillong, Feb 10: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Monday warned of stern action against those involved in the illegal appointment of “proxy teachers” in government schools across the state.
“If we received complaints of such kinds, the government will definitely take strong actions against those teachers as we request teachers if you applied to become a teacher, be a teacher,” Sangma told reporters.
“The government will also issue a strong warning to heads of institutions that it will be your responsibility if you allow a proxy teacher because after installation of the teachers information management system (TIMS), you will be held accountable…,” he added.
According to him, teachers cannot appoint anybody in their place.
Sangma however said that there are many schools, which have appointed additional teachers at their own expense, to address the shortage of teachers.
“But you don’t appoint somebody in your place, that is wrong,” he stated.
Appealing to teachers not to indulge into such illegal practices, the education minister said, “If you have some urgency, you can ask for proper formal leave through proper procedure, it is my request.”
