Shillong, Feb 6: The ten day Meghalaya budget session will commence on February 28 and conclude on March 13, with three days allocated for private members’ business and seven for government business, according to the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

The BAC meeting, held on Thursday, was attended by Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs Prestone Tynsong, Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma, Trinamool Congress (TMC) state chief Charles Pyngrope, Government Advisor Lakhmen Rymbui, and other officials.

Assembly Speaker Thomas Sangma announced, “We will have ten full working days, with three days allocated for private members’ business and seven days for government business.”

When asked whether three days were sufficient for private members’ business, he affirmed, “Yes, why not? Three days for private members’ business is good enough. This is a budget session—three days will be dedicated to discussing the budget, and two days will be allotted for the Governor’s address. That should be sufficient.”

Addressing concerns about limited time for Assembly discussions, Sangma assured that members would have ample opportunities to participate. “There should be enough time for everybody. In case of a shortage, we will be happy to extend the session even on a Friday,” he added.
