Traffic arrangements in Shillong for Durand Cup 2024 Semifinal match on Aug 26

Shillong, Aug 23: The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has announced several traffic restrictions ahead of the Durand Cup 2024 Semifinal football match between Shillong Lajong FC and NorthEast United FC, scheduled for August 26 at the J.N. Stadium in Polo in Shillong at 5:30 PM.

To facilitate smooth traffic flow and effective crowd management, the following restrictions will be in place from 2:00 PM on match day until the event concludes:

Key Traffic Restrictions:

– No-Entry Zones: Several areas around Polo, including Lumjingshai Junction, 4 Furlong Junction, Polo Market and Lawmali Junction, will be designated as no-entry zones starting from 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

– Diversions: Vehicles approaching these restricted areas will be diverted towards Lawmali, Jaiaw and Jingthangbriew.

– Heavy Vehicle Ban: Heavy motor vehicles will be barred from entering the Polo area from 2:00 PM onwards.

– Parking Restrictions: Parking will be prohibited around the Polo agglomeration starting from 11:00 AM.

– Public Transport: The public is encouraged to use carpooling or shared taxis to reduce traffic congestion.

Emergency service vehicles and those transporting sick individuals will be exempt from these restrictions.

The STP have requested the general public to avoid travelling unnecessarily towards Polo area from 2:00 PP onwards till the football match is over.

The Shillong Traffic has also requested the supporters proceeding towards J. N. Complex to see the football match to come early so as to avoid unnecessary traffic congestion in and around Polo area.
