SHILLONG, JUNE 7: Power Minister AT Mondal on Thursday said the power scenario in Meghalaya is good.

“We are in a comfortable situation so there is no need to worry about load shedding,” Mondal informed reporters.

He however said the recent Cyclone Remal had created havoc for the power distribution and transmission system. This has led to frequent power cuts across the state.

“We got rain in huge quantities but at the same time this cyclone has also created havoc for us. Therefore, we are working on it. You must have seen that ground staff they are working day and night to see that power is restored,” Mondal said while adding “I request our esteemed consumers to please bear with us in this situation and hopefully we will try to see that no more shutdown is given, we will be working in that.”

The minister informed that the department is still assessing the loss due to major damages caused by the recent cyclone.

Mondal said, “see as of now we are supplying uninterrupted power. You might have seen last year we have faced a lot of problems as far as the continuous supply of power and we have gone for forced shutdown because of load shedding. But this time we are not going for load shedding and that indicates that we have improved to some extent.”

Further, the minister said that it is too early to tell whether MeECL has revived or not. “Every utility in the country is under stress because of many factors and MeECL also,” he added.
