Nongpoh, May 22: The Dorbar Pyllun (General Body) of Erpakon village has unanimously decided to evict all non-tribals residing or working within the jurisdiction of Erpakon Village.

This decision followed with the brutal murder of 38-year-old Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait, a local, by a non-tribal labourer employed at the RN Sharma Hotel on May 11.

The Dorbar Pyllun of Erpakon has given a month’s time for all non-tribals to vacate the village.

The Dorbar also demanded that all hotels and Dhaba’s operating within the Shnong jurisdiction should employ only residents.

It may be mentioned that both the victim and the accused were intoxicated, leading to a violent brawl. During the altercation, the accused allegedly used a plank to strike the victim on the head, resulting in serious injuries. The victim later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The following day, the police arrested the accused.

M. Thongni, the headman of Erpakon, along with Lambor Kharshilot, the General Secretary, expressed that these decisions are aimed at preventing further incidents of violence and ensuring the security of the village’s tribal population.

Furthermore, the Dorbar Pyllun has resolved not to issue any no-objection certificates (NOC) for non-tribals intending to operate businesses within the village’s jurisdiction from this point forward.
