Shillong, April 1: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday informed that all the Deputy Commissioners have already been instructed to immediately take necessary action following the massive thunderstorm that occured on Sunday across Meghalaya.

Sangma added that as a policy measure, last year, Government had taken steps to decentralize the implementation of the relief process. The Deputy Commissioners need not come to the state capital for any kind of clearance and can take steps independently at their own level, in terms of distribution of basic relief material, as well as different housing support, for example, CGI sheets to be distributed , CM added.

“Freedom has been given to the DCs and funds have been given to them. The Chief Secretary has taken a stock of the entire situation and I have been updated, and we expect to complete the entire relief process in the next 24 hours to 48 hours. So we are on the job and the entire policy is decentralized now” mentioned Sangma.
