SHILLONG, MAR 22: Terming Congress leader Vincent Pala’s recent statements on Bharatiya Janata Party as uncalled for and a misinformation campaign, Meghalaya BJP has demanded that the sitting MP should either give one specific instance of disrespect to the church by India’s ruling party or retract the statement immediately.

“The state unit of BJP pointed to the various instances when the Prime Minister himself paid homage to the Church and the pro-Christian activities carried out by various state leaders of the party,” the party said in a statement.

The party reminded Pala, that during a pre-Christmas event organized at the Prime Minister’s residence, Narendra Modi had lavished unparalleled praise on Jesus Christ and his teachings.

“Prime Minister Modi had said that Christ worked on making an inclusive society that had justice for everyone, adding that these ideas were a guiding light for the development of the country. Which Congress leader ever paid such glowing tributes to Christ and his divine message? This is a question that BJP wants Pala to answer,” it said.

Meghalaya BJP also reminded everyone that during Christmas season, senior party leaders, including A.L. Hek and others, organized celebratory programs for children and the less privileged, spreading festive cheer all around; which is diametrically opposite to the fiction being scripted by leaders like Vincent Pala.

BJP Chief Spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang commented, “The Congress is well aware that their chances are fading with each passing day and the BJP’s fortunes are on a visible upswing. Such objectionable remarks are just a tactics to hoodwink the public and a desperate attempt to garner some sympathy votes. The people have seen through such games long back and will vote for true secularism, vote for BJP’s chosen candidate in the coming MP elections.”
