With the sudden surge in child fatalities has prompted authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation into the possible causes behind the alarming number of deaths.

Following which the Hospital authorities said that the three of these babies were born at the Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital while the other babies were referred from subdivisions in a critical condition.

However, the doctors have said that the two-year-old child was undergoing treatment at the hospital with neurological problems.

The Hospital authorities have also confirmed that a report regarding this matter has been sent to Health Department of West Bengal.

Sources said, Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital treated around 380 newborn babies last month.

Prof. Amit Dan of the Medical College and Hospital said, “PWD’s work is going on at the Jangipur Subdivision Hospital. So, patients from there were shifted here. Hence, the number of patients increased here…All the children who were brought here were already underweight. They died. It was difficult to save them as it already took 5-6 hours to bring them to this hospital. We are constituting a team to probe this…”
