Manipur Violence: Former BJYM president arrested in recent shooting incident

Imphal, Oct 23: Manoharmayum Barish Sharma, former president of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was arrested by the Imphal Police team and was produced in front of district magistrate Imphal West on Sunday.

He is the main accused in the shooting incident case that took place on October 14 night, which resulted in gunshot wounds to five people, including a woman. The incident occurred at Kwakeithel Konjeng Haraji Leikai under the Imphal police station.

So far, police have arrested five people in connection with the crime.

 

According to police, Barish was arrested on Saturday at around 11:20 from his Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhi Mapal residence in Imphal East.

On October 14, at around 10:30 p.m., around 20 armed men in civilian fatigues tried to abduct a person from Sega Road, Khwairakpam Leikai, amidst a curfew imposed by the district administration.
