Shillong, Aug 24:  In a shocking incident,  two men attempted to abduct a child from a school in Laitumkhrah, Shillong. The incident is said to have occurred at 12:30 p.m.

According to the parents who reported the incident, the two suspicious individuals arrived at Laitumkhrah H/S Presbyterian School to pick up a child from Class KG. However, the school authorities denied the request after the child failed to recognise the individuals. The duo said that the child’s mother was ill, following which the mother was contacted, who confirmed that she had not authorised any such pickup. The duo even entered the principal’s office to convince her that the father of the child had asked them to pick the child since everyone in the family was sick, but the principal sternly disagreed. The parents also informed that earlier, an attempt was made on a Class 6 student while he was on his way home. However, he managed to escape unharmed.

Meanwhile, police have been informed about both incidents and are currently working to identify the individuals and their intentions.

Also, the authorities have urged all schools to be extra cautious and to verify the identity of anyone attempting to pick up a child. Schools have also been advised to contact parents or guardians to confirm arrangements and to reach out to local police or the Police Control Room (PCR) for assistance in case there is any doubt or suspicion.
