Tura, July 25: The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chelani, has issued an order informing that all educational institutes in Tura Municipal Area (Tura Town) will remain closed on Tuesday (July 25).

The order further said the institutes will resume normal functioning on Wednesday in compliance with the provisions of orders passed under Section 144 on Monday.

The closure of educational institutes in Tura Municipal Area is a precautionary measure taken to maintain law and order in the region. The District Magistrate has urged the residents to cooperate and adhere to the orders for the safety and security of everyone.

In compliance with the order, Don Bosco College issued a notice stating that “the college will remain closed on July 25 (Tuesday). The decision has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all the students and staff in light of the current situation.”

The notice also read that the College Assembly, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday (July 25), has also been postponed to a later date, of which will be informed once it is finalised.

Mob Attacks CMO’s office in Tura

The order was passed after CM’s Secretariat, also called CMO Tura, in which CM Conrad K Sangma was having meeting with NGOs and civil society groups was attacked by an unruly mob on Monday night, leaving five security personnel injured.

Following the incident, the district administration had imposed Section 144 of CrPC.

A crowd in large numbers, allegedly belonging to vested interest groups, gathered outside at the CMO’s office in Tura and started pelting stones.

Police, in retaliation, had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

The Chief Minister’s visit to Tura was intended to address the demands of the civil society groups, but unfortunately, it resulted in a violent clash between the mob and security personnel. The injured security personnel were immediately taken for medical treatment after the incident.
