Agartala, July 10: Mahila Congress, the women’s wing of the Indian National Congress staged a sit-in protest in Agartala to address the escalating incidents of drug addiction and the crime against women, including rape cases, in Tripura.

The demonstration, which lasted for four hours, commenced at approximately 11 AM on Monday in the Orient Chowmhuni area.

Notable Congress leaders, including state president Asish Kumar Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, and former MLA Diba Chandra Hwrankhal, actively participated in the protest.

The Congress leaders voiced their concerns over the involvement of ruling BJP leaders and their supporters in numerous cases related to drug trafficking, addiction, and crimes against women.

They claimed that the police’s inability to take action against these ruling party leaders and supporters involved with drug trafficking and crimes further exacerbates the situation.

Additionally, the Congress leaders highlighted the incident involving BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath, who was caught on camera watching explicit content inside the assembly during a session attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

They criticized the lack of action taken against Nath and expressed that such instances, coupled with the suspension of those who protested against it, promote a culture of crime against women in Tripura.
