Manipur: Schools for classes 1 to 8 reopen today after almost 2 months

Imphal, July 5: Schools in Manipur, after remaining closed for almost two months because of ethnic clashes, the educational institutes have reopened across the violence hit state on Wednesday.

A few schools in the state, including Little Flower School in Imphal and The Regular English High School in Kwakeithel have opened up for students.

On the first day of school, the attendance in most of the educational institutes have witnessed extremely low on the first day.

The decision of the state government to reopen the school was welcomed by the students, parents and guardians.

On Monday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced to reopening of schools for classes 1 to 8 from July 5.

Schools and other educational institues in the state was shut after a clashes brok out between Meitei and Kuki on May 3 in Churachandpur.

In the ongoing violence, at least 118 people lost their lives and about 40,000 people are displaced so far. Thousands of people are taking shelter in relief camps.

Meanwhile, Internet services continue to be suspended in the state and a curfew is in force in some areas.
