112th death anniversary of Khasi author Rabon Sing Kharsuka observed

Shillong, Nov 16: The Rabon Sing Kharsuka Memorial Committee on Tuesday observed the 112th death anniversary of a well-known writer of the 19th century, Rabon Sing Kharsuka, who contributed towards Khasi literature.

To commemorate the death anniversary of the renowned Khasi author, two students who secured highest marks in the subject of Khasi in Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree were felicitated by the Chief Guest Dr Sylvanus Lamare, Principal of St Edmund’s College, and by Ransom Suntnga, Mawkhar’s Assistant Rangbah Shnong and NPP candidate of North Shillong Constituency.

Eldora Lyngdoh, the great granddaughter of Rabon Singh Kharsuka, said Kharsuka has written several Khasi literatures like- Ka Kitab Niam khein ki Khasi, Ka Kitab Jingphawar, Ka Jingiathuh khana Puriskam (Folk tale) 1908.

Babu Rabon was also a regular contributor to Khasi newspapers like U Nongapphira (1905 onwards), Ka Kot Khubor Khasi, U Nongialam Katholik etc, where his articles and poems appeared frequently, she informed.

She also said that some of his poems and prose articles were later included in the prose and poetry collection.
