97.5% of land handed over for Shillong Western Bypass construction

Shillong, March 13: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday informed that the 97.5 percent of land has been handed over to the National Highway & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for construction of the Shillong Western Bypass.

“Regarding the remaining 2.5 % land, the deputy commissioners of East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi are working out on it to ensure we are able to resolve whatever issues raised by the beneficiaries,” Tynsong said while replying in the Assembly during the question hour.

He said that Rs 455,39,34,752 was spend for the acquisition of land for the project as per RFCTLARR Act, 2013 in East Khasi Hills District and Rs 121,40,63,701 in Ri Bhoi.

Tynsong also informed that work for the three packages of the project has started and said, “the progress of work is satisfactory”.

The deputy chief minister also mentioned that the project is not facing any problem of land issue except issue of claim and counter claim of ownership and assured, “such issue will in no time be resolved by the DCs of both the districts.”

On a question raised by Leader of Opposition if there are landless families who are affected by the project, Tynsong however said, “In fact the issues that come up till this moment is being attended to by the two respective DCs. We are here from the government to also helped dispaced families. If the road alignment goes (from such land) such issue wil be taken care of by the government.”

He further clarified that there is no misappropriate of the project at all.

Tynsong said that there has no  official complaint on allegation by aggrieved land owners that 10 or 20 % of the compensation payment was deducted.

“No such formal complaint was received by the DCs,”he added.
