Tura, March 15: The Governor of Meghalaya has summoned a special session of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on March 16, following a petition submitted by members of the council stating that the Chief Executive Member (CEM) has lost the confidence of the House.
According to a notification issued by the District Council Affairs Department on Saturday, the Governor received a petition signed by 21 members of the GHADC on March 14 alleging that the CEM Albinush R Marak no longer enjoys the support of the Executive Council.
The GHADC consists of 30 MDCs, including 29 elected representatives and one nominated member.
Exercising powers under Rule 36(5) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951, the Governor has directed that the council session be convened at 11:00 AM at the District Council Hall in Tura.
The session has been called to conduct proceedings under Rule 22(1) and to take up any subsequent business required in accordance with the rules governing the autonomous district councils.
The Governor has also authorised the Chairman of the GHADC to preside over the session in line with the relevant provisions of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951.
