GUWAHATI, July 08: Guwahati Police has successfully rescued two girls from a brothel in Bihar.
Four persons have been arrested in this connection. They are- Tanweer Alom (35), son of late Aftab Alom, of Gulab Bagh Zero Mile, Eurnia, Bihar; Idrish Ali (27), son of Jaharuddin Ali, a resident of Satrakonara, Baghbar, Barpeta; Khairun Nesa (30), wife of Ekbal Ali, a resident of Panjipara, Hanskunda, Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal and Sikandar Ali (48), son of Late Sukur Ali, Ganeshpara, Fatashil Ambari, Guwahati.
According to a complaint lodged at Bhangagarh Police Station, two girls have been missing since June 29. The mother of one of the girls reported that her 18-year-old daughter had been insisting on getting a new mobile phone. After the family refused her request, she went to the house of another girl, and both girls subsequently went missing.
City Police Commissioner Diganta Barah stated in an official statement that during the investigation, someone called the brother of one of the victims, demanding Rs 30,000 for her release. The call was traced to Purnia, Bihar, which helped the police locate and rescue the girls.
“A police team was sent to Purnia, Bihar, where they apprehended Tanveer Alom, who had made the extortion call and rescued both victim girls,” Barah said.
“The victim girls were planning to go to Delhi when Sikandar Ali met them at Paltanbazar railway station. He convinced them that he would help them reach Delhi but instead handed them over to Idrish Ali of Basistha. Idrish Ali and his wife, Babli, in collaboration with Khairun Nessa from Panjipara, West Bengal, took the girls to Siliguri by bus and sold them to Akbor of Panjipara, Bihar, for Rs 1,10,000. Akbor then handed the girls over to Tanveer Alom, who forced them to work in a brothel in Rawta, Bihar,” he said.
“Having found sufficient evidence against the accused persons involved in the crime, police subsequently arrested Idrish Ali from Pilinkata, Basistha, and Sikandar Ali from Paltanbazar Railway Station,” Barah added.
He also mentioned that further investigation is ongoing to arrest Idrish Ali’s wife, who is currently absconding.
