Shillong, July 9: Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Border Area has urged the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to ensure 18 Khasi villages under Raid Nongtung, Khyriem Syiemship, be retained within the state of Meghalaya.

In a memorandum submitted on Tuesday, the Synjuk also stated that the villagers are facing difficulties due to non-release of material payments under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme.

Despite significant funds being spent, the villagers have yet to receive water supply in their homes under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme.

The Synjuk has also requested immediate attention for the improvement and maintenance of three crucial roads in the disputed border areas. They include Mawlasnai to Jatalong, Khyndewso to Sabuda and Thadrang to Khliehumwang.

It said that the villagers are seeking provision of solar lighting and batteries through the Chief Minister’s Solar Mission to address the lack of electricity in their area.

They have also requested the establishment of at least two Sub-Centres to address the basic medical needs of the population.

The Synjuk has urged the Chief Minister to address these concerns at the earliest, ensuring that the residents of the border areas receive their rightful access to essential services and development.
