Shillong, Sept 18: The District Administration of West Khasi Hills (WKH) has enforced Section 144 CrPC in an area spanning approximately 500 meters around all fishing ponds adjacent to Public Works Department (PWD) Roads in all over the district.
This action was taken in response to reports of upcoming fishing events that have been causing severe disruptions to traffic flow and pedestrian movement along these PWD roads.
This decision comes after an ambulance carrying a pregnant woman was caught in a traffic jam caused by anglers who had come to participate in a fishing competition, leading to the loss of her child. The mother of the child is still in critical condition. Due to the traffic jam at Pamphyrnai, Ksehkohlong village of West Khasi Hills, the ambulance couldn’t reach the hospital on time, resulting in the tragic incident.
In response to this distressing event, the District Commissioner (DC) has issued an immediate order to impose Section 144 CrPC in the vicinity of fishing ponds near PWD Roads.
