Guwahati, Oct 13: The family of late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg has intensified its call for justice, with his wife Garima Saikia Garg and sister Dr Palmee Borthakur urging that justice be delivered within the next ten days.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Garima wrote, “#WeNeedZubeenGargJustice within 10 days. Justice for Zubeen Garg.” Her appeal was echoed by Dr Palmee Borthakur, who also took to social media with the message, “#JusticeForZubeenGarg — we need justice for Zubeen Garg within 10 days.”
The coordinated online movement has drawn an outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers across Assam, with thousands joining the campaign demanding clarity and accountability surrounding the singer’s mysterious death.
Renowned Assamese actress Amrita Gogoi has also sparked a massive digital movement demanding justice for Zubeen Garg, urging people across Assam to unite through social media.
In a Facebook post earlier today, Amrita announced plans for an organised online protest to amplify public demand for justice. She appealed to everyone to post or tweet two hashtags — #We_Need_ZubeenGargJustice_within_10days and #JusticeForZubeenGarg — simultaneously at 10 AM on Monday, October 13, 2025.
“I am planning a digital movement,” she wrote in Assamese. “Let us all post the same two lines together on every platform. Even if this movement doesn’t reach the news, I want you all to feel that we are doing this together.”
Within hours, her post went viral, triggering a wave of reactions and shares across social media. Hundreds joined in by resharing her message, turning the hashtags into rallying cries for justice.
Zubeen Garg, a beloved cultural icon and one of Assam’s most celebrated voices, passed away on September 19 in Singapore. His sudden demise sent shockwaves across the state and left many questions unanswered.
Garima Saikia Garg has expressed deep frustration over the lack of transparency in the ongoing investigation. During her visit to Zubeen’s cremation site at Kamarkuchi, on the outskirts of Guwahati, on Friday night, she appealed to fans to continue amplifying their demand for justice by posting daily with the hashtag #JusticeForZubeenGarg.
The 52-year-old singer’s death led to the arrest of seven individuals, including festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma. However, Garima and Zubeen’s family maintain that crucial details about what transpired that day remain unclear.
