“Who are they?”

Shillong, Dec 21: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar has slammed the Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP), a Hindu group for demanding reopening of the Mawjymbuin cave without knowing the land tenure system of the state.

Speaking to reporters, Dhar said the Hindu group cannot give a deadline to the state government.

“Who are they?” he asked.

“They (KSP) should first know the land tenure system in the state. Lands here mainly are private lands. It (Mawjymbuin cave too) is on private land so whatever they decide (land owners) it is up to them,” Dhar stated.

The Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) has given a deadline of December 23 to the Meghalaya government, demanding the reopening of the Mawjymbuin Cave for Hindu rituals. The group has warned of blocking key roads of Meghalaya, including Jorabat near Guwahati, if their demand is not met.
