Tura,  Nov 09: The Wangala Festival, also popularly known as the 100 Drums Festival, is finally here to raise the heart beats with the beating of drums.

Wangala or the ‘100 Drums Festival,’ is a representation of a distinctive and lively celebration of the Garo community of the state. This festival is also one of the colorful festivals of Meghalaya which highlights the rich Garo culture and also their respect toward nature and agriculture.

What is Wangala Festival?

The Wangala Festival marks the conclusion of the agricultural season, where people express their gratitude to the deities for a plentiful and good harvest, while also seeking their blessings for the year ahead.

But why 100 drums?

Talking about the drums, it must be noted that the highlight of Wangala is beat of a hundred drums. The drums which are used in the festival represents the rich culture of the Garos. These huge drums are traditionally made out of tree trunks.

What makes this festival beautiful and rich is the dance performance where dancers synchronise their movements with rhythmic drumming.

During the festival several stalls are installed and several Garo craftsmanship are displayed.
