Update | Meghalaya evacuates 70 more citizens, including 62 students from Manipur

Shillong, May 7: As Manipur continues to grapple with the tense situation due to the large-scale ethnic riots in the State, Meghalaya has been working diligently to bring its citizens back to the safety of the State. On Sunday, 70 students and citizens were evacuated from Manipur by the Meghalaya government.

Of the 70, 62 are students. These students were flown back to Guwahati airport from Imphal airport via a Flybig flight. Of the 62 students, 23 will be heading to Shillong, 25 to Tura, and the remaining 14 will be picked up by their parents and relatives.

Meghalaya has been working tirelessly to bring back its citizens and ensure their safety during these troubled times. On Saturday, 17 students were brought back and on Friday 66 students were brought back safely to the State.

Government of Meghalaya is also arranging food on arrival on a daily basis at the airport as well as vehicles for students and citizens.

The evacuated students have expressed their appreciation to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and the Government of Meghalaya for standing with them and ensuring their safe return.

A press statement from the CMO stated: “Hon’ble CM has directed officials to ensure students are brought back at the earliest… We are happy to see the smiles as our students are reunited with their families. Efforts are on to bring our remaining students back home.”

The evacuation effort is part of Meghalaya’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of its citizens and providing them with a sense of security during this difficult period. The government has assured the families of those affected that it will continue to do everything in its power to ensure their safety and well-being.
