Shillong, Sept 09: West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association rode to a massive 127-run victory over West Jaintia Hills DCA on the back of a fine 87 from Dubleen Nengnong in the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-19 Girls Inter District Cricket Tournament on Saturday.

The other match was an exciting low-scoring affair that Tura DCA won by 9 runs against East Garo Hills DCA.

WKH won the toss and opted to bat first in Umbuda, Ri-Bhoi, where they made 163/1 in a reduced 19 overs in Zone 1’s Group B.

Player of the Match Nengnong hit 16 fours in an innings of 87 from 73 deliveries before being run out in the last over. In the chase, WJH were all out for 36, with only Jinghaihun Ksoo (10) making it to double figures. Emisakani Warjri bowled brilliantly for figures of 4/4, while team mate Fenny Nongrum claimed 3/3.

In the Zone 2 match in Salpara, North Garo Hills, Tura won the toss and also chose to bat first but they were kept down to 94/3 in 25 overs. Pillika R. Marak top-scored with 25 not out, while Mikchikime (19) and Cheriksa S Sangma (15) were also among the runs. Kambesa A Sangma (1/3), Senggamchi N Sangma (1/21) and Tangsilchi G Momin (1/22) were the wicket-takers.

In reply, Silkamchi Marak’s 19 at the top of the order plus 42 extras almost saw EGH to victory but they fell just short as the wickets kept falling. All six Tura bowlers took at least one wicket, with Mikchikime (2/8) and Terisha S Marak (2/15) each claiming a brace.

The next matches will be held on Monday. In Zone 1’s Group B, WJH will be back in action against Shillong Cricket Association, while South Garo Hills DCA will take on North Garo Hills DCA in Zone 2.
