Tura Poster Row | Police term incident a bid to create panic

Tura, Jan 28: The West Garo Hills District Police have taken cognisance of a poster found pasted on an electric pole near Law College, Araimile in Tura on Wednesday.

According to the police, no other such posters have been reported from any part of the district so far. A preliminary assessment suggests that the act may be a deliberate attempt by certain individuals or a group with vested interests to create fear, anxiety and disturb the prevailing law and order situation.

The poster has since been removed and will be sent for forensic examination. Police confirmed that a case has been registered at Araimile Police Station and an investigation is currently underway.

“All out efforts are being made to identify and trace the persons responsible for pasting the poster and circulating it to create panic and communal disharmony,” the police stated, adding that necessary legal action will be taken under relevant sections of the law.

The district police have urged the public not to panic or be misled by such messages circulated on social media or other platforms.
