Agartala, Aug 27: A 27-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a POCSO court in Tripura on Tuesday for raping a 14-year-old girl, while two other youths were handed 10-year jail terms in separate child rape cases.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Sudharshan Sharma said that in the first case, Special POCSO Court Judge Angshuman Debbarma sentenced Samir Naha, the main accused, to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 after finding him guilty of repeatedly raping a class eight girl in Dharmanagar in 2020.
Sharma added that the victim’s mother and elder sister, who had facilitated the abuse, were each sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000. The girl had been subjected to abuse for over a year before contacting the NGO Child Line in January 2021.
In a separate case, the same court sentenced Nirmal Sukhla Baidya and Mashendra Sukhla Baidya to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each, along with fines of Rs 10,000, for raping a 13-year-old girl at Kanchanpur in North Tripura district.
