Agartala, August 9: The Election Commission announced on Tuesday that by-elections for two Assembly seats in Tripura will take place on September 5, officials confirmed.
An election official disclosed that the bypolls for the Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly constituencies, both located in the Sepahijala district, are scheduled for September 5. The formal notification will be issued on August 10.
In accordance with the by-election timeline, the deadline for submitting nominations is August 17, followed by the scrutiny of candidatures the next day. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until August 21. Vote counting will occur on September 8.
The by-election for the Dhanpur assembly seat arose due to the resignation of Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, who stepped down from the Assembly shortly after being elected as the BJP nominee in the February 16 Assembly elections. The election results were announced on March 2.
The Boxanagar assembly seat, predominantly inhabited by the Muslim community, became vacant following the passing of sitting CPI-M MLA Samsul Haque. Haque succumbed to a cardiac attack on July 19.
