Guwahati, May 17: The Assam unit of TMC has lodged a formal complaint against Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging gross violations of the Model Code of Conduct. The complaint was submitted by the President of Assam’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), and it accused Sarma of making inflammatory remarks against the Muslim community during an election campaign meeting in Jharkhand on May 15.

According to the complaint, TMC has accused Sarma of hate speech and inciting the Hindu community against Muslims.

“The Mughals had made the entire country dirty, now we Hindus must clean it.” Sarma has been quoted saying this in the complaint letter.

He allegedly further provoked tensions by suggesting that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins 400 seats, they would take significant actions against the Muslim community” the complaint letter stated.

The complaint also refers to Assam CM’s comments on a money laundering case involving the sister of Jharkhand’s Chief Minister, where he reportedly stated, “we Hindus must not tolerate and allow Muslims to keep such huge money in their custody,” and claimed that “only Muslim leaders can commit such offenses” .
